CORFU CALLING: THREE MAYOR HOTELS, ONE BEAUTIFUL ISLAND
At the beginning of October, I was lucky enough to be invited on an Educational Trip to Corfu with the lovely Dimitris, who was representing the beautiful Mayor Hotels this time around.
My flight was with British Airways from Gatwick. It was an early start, but we departed just 15 minutes later than scheduled, which I’ll happily take. Even with the season winding down in Corfu, both my flights out and back were completely full.
Here’s something I wasn’t expecting: British Airways now charges for pretty much everything on board. Since my last European flight with them, the freebies have disappeared, and water is the only thing you’ll get without reaching for your purse. Sandwiches and drinks are priced much like Easyjet.
The good news is that the journey is short and sweet. It took slightly over 3 hours to reach Corfu and just under 3 hours to get home.
Unda by Mayor
For the full duration of the trip, we stayed at the gorgeous Unda by Mayor, set right on the beachfront in Roda. It’s the kind of place where you arrive and feel your shoulders drop: a tranquil retreat with stunning views across the Ionian Sea, wrapped in lush gardens that make it feel like a world away from everyday life.
The rooms and suites are stylish and relaxed, with plenty of choice to suit different clients. For those wanting something a little more special, there are options with private pools and even swim-up access, so you can step straight from your terrace into the water.
Guests can choose between Half Board and an enhanced All-Inclusive experience, which makes it easy to match the hotel to different budgets and holiday styles.
There’s also plenty to look forward to, with several upgrades planned including new rooms, expanded pools and additional dining venues.

The buffet was excellent with a fabulous choice everyday and catering for every dietary requirement. The a la carte restaurants offered fantastic menu’s again with a choice for every pallet.
There is live music several evenings a week by the buffet dining area, which has a large outside seating area. There are also 3 fantastic bars, 2 of which are located by the pools.
There are 2 freshwater swimming pools which are huge, as well as the pools scattered around by the rooms – some of which are swim up. The resort is family friendly but with no kids’ facilities, this hotel does not get overrun with children.
It is a short 10-minute walk along the footpath which runs adjacent to the ocean, to Roda which has an array of bars, restaurants and shops. Great for purchasing gifts.
The hotel was 90% full at the time we stayed, but you would never have thought so – with so many swimming opportunities and being right on the sea front.
I loved this hotel – it had a very laid-back feel to it – very peaceful.

Corfu Old Town
Corfu Old Town is about an hour’s drive from Unda, and it’s a very scenic one, so it’s worth keeping the window seat. It’s such a lovely town, with plenty to keep you busy for a day.
You’ll find lively bars, restaurants and shops tucked down the winding streets, and a massive 16th century Venetian fortress that towers over it all.
For the best views, head to St. George’s church, which you can climb to the top of. From up there you can look out over the rooftops of the town and across the Ionian Sea.
For me, though, the best part of the day was the simplest: sitting in the sunshine at a bar in the square, drink in hand, watching the world go by.

Restia by Mayor
The second hotel in the Mayor group that we visited was Restia. This is in a similar area to Unda – just a 10-minute drive.
Another 5* but more boutique hotel. Having said that, the hotel is due a renovation in 2028 when it is due to be expanded. At the moment, the hotel consists of 32 rooms, 1 bar and 1 restaurant. It used to be adults only but is now family friendly.
There are no kids’ facilities so you will find mainly adults staying here. The board basis again is either half board or all-inclusive.
They currently have one freshwater swimming pool, however many of the rooms have their own private pools. They also have a small gym and spa as well as a boutique, mini market and tennis court.
Again, I really loved this hotel – I preferred the rooms to the Unda but there were not so many facilities. This would suit someone looking for a peaceful get away from it all holiday.

Cabo by Mayor
The 3rd hotel in the Mayor group that we visited was the Cabo hotel which is located in the South of Corfu 6km from Lefkimmi Port. This is a 5* all-inclusive adults only hotel featuring 60 rooms.
They have 2 outdoor freshwater pools, 2 restaurants, a pool snack bar, spa and fitness centre and mini market. The rooms here were very nice and quite similar to those of Unda.
Down by the second pool, they have a live DJ each day which is very loud and gives the whole place a bit of an Ibiza feel.
Even at the top pool the music can still be heard. They do have lots of areas to sit on deck chairs and bean bags all throughout their gardens.

All in all, a fantastic trip on a stunningly beautiful island!
